Dispensing Isolator for large quantities of processed product

March 31, 2021

How can OSD facilities safely dispense highly potent products?

When OSD facilities work with high-potency APIs, the top priority is to guarantee operator safety and product integrity while maximizing throughput.
A purpose-designed dispensing isolator enables pharmaceutical manufacturers to accurately weigh and dispense HPAPI into multiple container formats without exposing operators to potent compounds and without relying on traditional PPE.

Can containers and IBCs of very different sizes be used for the dispensed product?

Process: load drums, weight, and dispense highly potent API into various containers or IBCs

What are the issues?

  • Containment performance: CPT ranging from 300 ng/m³ down to single-digit nanogram levels, depending on the defined OEL.
  • Large variety of incoming drum sizes (5-20 kg)
  • Receiving containers range from bottles, to bags to IBCs
  • Installation room is small: 6.5 m x 3.5 m (21’ x 11.5’)

Key features of FPS Pharma dispensing isolators:

  • Custom design to optimize space and operability (such as the L-shaped isolator in the picture above, designed to meet space constraints).
  • Integrated drum lifting and tilting for all drum sizes.
  • Three-chamber design (inlet / dispensing with weighing / transfer with SBVs)
  • Continuous liner to ensure the safe discharge of waste and tools.

Key benefits:

  • No need for PPEs, as the custom isolators are engineered for CPT ranging from 300 ng/m³ down to single-digit nanogram levels and below (OEB 7 isolators) depending on customer containment requirements.
  • Automatic drum loading – PLC controlled for repeatable, efficient operations.
  • Custom platform provides 6 feet (1.7 m) of space
    • all drums and IBCs can be easily placed under the dispensing chamber
    • bags & bottles are manually placed (at a comfortable height)

The FPS Pharma custom dispensing isolators are engineered to deliver exceptional containment levels, down to single-digit nanogram levels and below depending on customer requirements (OEB5/ OEB6/ OEB7).
